What does the Pure Gospel Produce?

In the parable of the sower, Jesus explains that “the seed is the word of God” (Lk. 8:11).  Different soils on which the seed fell represent different reactions to the gospel.

When the apostles preached the pure gospel (the word or “seed”) as recorded in the book of Acts, “honest and good” hearted people (Lk. 8:15) who responded by believing, repenting and being baptized (Mk. 16:15-16; Acts 2:36-38) became Christians (Acts 11:26).  Groups of these Christians working and worshiping together in various places were known as local churches of Christ (see Romans 16:16; Acts 18:8; I Cor. 1:2).  Therefore, the pure gospel produces genuine Christians and local churches.

The Clothing of the Godly

People are often identified by the clothes they wear. In the Bible clothing identified people as being widows, harlots, kings, rich men, men, women and wedding guests. Today, just by looking at a person’s attire, we can identify doctors, nurses, policemen, firemen, soldiers, football players, ballet dancers, and homeless people. In 1 Timothy 2:9-10, the apostle Paul instructs women to dress in a way which “befits women making a claim to godliness” (NASB). Certainly it would not be fitting or proper for a soldier to dress in the attire of a bum or for a policeman to dress as a doctor. Likewise, it is improper for the godly to dress in clothing which is characteristic of the ungodly.

Moderation in Doctrinal Stability

by Bill Hall

Two men are teachers of God’s word. Both are conscientious men who love truth. The first man, however, is easily swayed by whatever he reads and hears. He frequently changes positions on doctrinal issues. Wanting to be independent in his thinking, he is quick to reject traditional “Church of Christ” thinking. He adopts into his thinking anything that, on the surface, sounds reasonable to him. He loves to come across some new, exciting “gem” that will set his teaching apart from the old, stale teaching that people have heard for years. Above all, he wants his teaching to be thought provoking and challenging, different and exciting, new and fresh in its approach.

Why I Want to Assemble with the Church

And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works: Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.Hebrews 10:24, 25

Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path. Psalm 119: 105

God Wants His Children to Meet Together

There are irreligious people who see no sense in attending places of worship. There are those who say they are very religious who make attendance a matter of convenience rather than a matter of conviction. However, there are many who, out of sincere conviction strive to attend every meeting of the church.
